The body as form and light
The human body is one of the oldest subjects in painting, and for me one of the richest. Not to please, but for what it holds: tension, vulnerability, presence. I often place the figure so close that it seems to press forward out of the canvas, physical and hard to keep at a distance. What draws me is muscle and the form of the body, and above all what light does with them, the shadows and highlights that give a body its volume and presence.
For me a nude study is not a pretty picture. It is an inquiry into form, posture and light, painted in oil with a loose touch. I work from a live model or from my own reference, and let the painting take shape as I go. What remains is a figure that meets your eye and stays with you, even when you would rather look away. Not posed perfection, but a body that is real and present.
My nude studies are original oil paintings, signed and unique, straight from my studio in North Holland. Intimate in scale, made to be seen up close. Works are shipped worldwide, insured and well packed.
