The work starts from a reference or photograph, but doesn't stay there. From that starting point the painting is built by feel. Colour, composition and form are pushed and changed until they sit right. The result is not an accurate copy of what was in front of the camera, but its own thing, closer to a mood than a likeness.

What interests me is the quiet: the withdrawal, the faint melancholy of someone who is present without performing. Light and skin carry the painting; the rest is left out. These are not portraits made to flatter, but figures caught in a moment that is theirs, not the viewer's.
Each work is an original oil painting, signed, and one of a kind. They are intimate in scale, usually up to around 80 × 60 cm, and meant to be lived with: not as a finishing touch to a room, but as something that holds your attention over time. Works are bought directly from the studio in North Holland and shipped worldwide, carefully packed and fully insured.
